Course description

This course describes the various forms of abuse and danger caused by the use of technology and the internet, both for adults and children, and gives detailed information on how to counter its effects.

This online training course will help learners to identify adults and children at risk and what forms online abusers takes and how to recognise them.  This course will provide learners with the information they need on how to help and protect adults and children from the dangers of technology.

The ability to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from harmful or inappropriate material online is extremely important and anyone working with these groups needs to be able to identify potential risks as well as the signs and symptons of vulnerabilities or suspected abuse.

This is a wide-ranging course covering what e-Safety means and explores the various forms that online abuse can take and how to counter that abuse.

This course will give learners the knowledge they need to spot children, young people and adults at risk and suffering from online abuse.

Topics covered in this module include:-

  • E-Safety for practitioners
  • Cyber bullying, how it happens, its impacts on victims, and how to report and prevent it
  • Sexting, what it is and how to deal with it
  • Online abuse, what it is and how it happens

This course uses a multi-media approach to allow the learner to explore the content through videos, and explainer screens, with a range of challenges to check the knowledge gained.  On completion of this course the learners will be able to:-

  • Explain what e-Safety is
  • Identify how children and young people use technology and the internet
  • Outline the benefits and risks of children and young people using technology and the internet
  • Explain how to audit e-Safety and produce or update e-Safety policies
  • Protect and manage personal data
  • Identify and report abusive behaviour online
  • Identify legislation that covers these issues, both across the UK as a whole and also as specific to Scotland, Northern Ireland and England and Wales
  • Outline how online grooming occurs
  • Explain how to report abuse and help victims, and give advice on staying safe online

You will learn:

  • Identify key e-Safety practices
  • Know how to report abusive online behaviour
  • Identify the benefits and risks of children and young people using the internet
  • Explain what is meant by cyberbullying, and identify who is at increased risk of cyberbullying
  • Define sexting and explain its legal and criminal implications
  • Explain different forms of online abuse regarding children, and the process of grooming

Course duration
