Why take this course?

Thousands of adults in the UK are classed as being problematic drug or alcohol users. A range of services are in place to assist them, but historically their children could easily be overlooked. However, government guidance now specifically aims to support affected children and this course aims to raise awareness of the key issues, as well as equip you to take appropriate action. This course maps to DANOS, the Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards.

The content of this e-learning course includes:

  • Overview of the hidden harm of parental drug and alcohol misuse
  • Impact on families and children
  • Assessing parental and family needs
  • Opportunities to influence the outcomes for children
  • How to engage positively with families

Training outcomes

  • Raise awareness of hidden harm issues relating to parental substance misuse.
  • Identify how the hidden harm aspects of parental substance misuse may affect children and young people.
  • Gain confidence in associating hidden harm with potential safeguarding issues for children exposed to parental substance misuse.
  • Recognise the importance of multi-agency working and the roles and responsibilities of different agencies to support children affected by hidden harm.
  • Understood the importance of sharing information appropriately and keeping records in order to safeguard children affected by hidden harm.

Accreditation

The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines.

Course duration

Approximately one hour to 90 minutes to complete. As an e-learning course you can complete this training in convenient stages. The system will record your progress throughout

Target audience

This course is suitable for anyone whose role involves working with children, young people and their families.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Test and certificate

The end of course test consists of 15 multiple choice questions. Learners are required to achieve a 75% pass mark, and, if necessary, may attempt the test three times at no extra cost. If learners do not achieve the 75% pass mark, further attempts may be given by contacting our support team.

Learners will be able to download a digital certificate on completion.
